Improving the lives of millions of pets to positively impact societal wellbeing
Throughout 2020, we remained purpose-driven in our actions and decisions as an organization. While responding to the challenges of the pandemic, our associates never lost sight of our commitment to give back by providing preventive care for those who need it the most.
While we are connected by a shared purpose to make a better world for pets, we constantly strive to make a better world for both our 19,000+ associates and our clients. A culture of inclusivity and two-way dialogue has fostered an environment for people to be their best selves, which in turn allows people to deliver the best care.
On this #NationalLoveYourPetDay, I’m so proud to share our 2020 Banfield Corporate Social Responsibility Report and the Banfield Foundation 2020 Impact Report. Together, these outcomes demonstrate how our teams remained dedicated to giving back to our communities – despite the difficulties brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. There are so many incredible moments of positive and heartwarming impact – and here are a few that stand out to me:
Banfield Pet Hospital’s $5.4 million contribution towards helping our veterinarians pay off their student loans.
Furthering our efforts to create a more equitable, diverse and inclusive profession by forming the Diversify Veterinary Medicine Coalition (DVMC) as well as launching our Banfield Pet Academy presentations in Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, and Farsi.
Introducing the Caring Counts Challenge – a practice-wide effort that resulted in nearly 30,000 acts of kindness by associates.
Awarding more than $350,000 in HOPE Funds, a Foundation program designed to help income-qualifying pet owners with the cost of emergency care.
Celebrating the Banfield Foundation’s five-year anniversary and reflecting upon the incredible impact they have made in such a short time – having helped 5 million pets since their inception in 2015.
As a member of the Banfield Foundation’s Board of Directors, one of my proudest moments this year was seeing the continued impact of the Safer Together Initiative – a program designed to raise awareness of the link between domestic violence and animal abuse. In 2020, the initiative provided more than $100,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations working to ensure that no person is faced with choosing between their safety and the safety of their pet.
At a time when the human-animal bond has never been stronger or more important, our work towards supporting the needs of pets helped to preserve the companionship, comfort, and care they bring to our communities. I am grateful for what we have accomplished together. Our dedication to giving back is a testament to the endless possibilities of what can be achieved when companies invest in caring for their people and their local communities. Last year truly was about solidarity and as this new year takes shape, Banfield Pet Hospital and the Banfield Foundation will continue to #bhere to improve society.
